Always listen to your body
Sorry it's been a while again.
I spent most of Thursday and all of Friday in pain.
Thursday night I started get period pain type cramps, We DTD which made the cramping worse, which in a way is a good thing as I do want this baby out now.
All day Friday still cramping. Anything from 5 to 9 minutes apart some were as far as half an hour apart.
About half 8 that evening I couldn't take any more. So I phoned up my maternity unit and they told me to go in.
I get there and instead of being put in triage I get put in to the labour ward. Not sure if it was because triage was full or just because they thought labour was possible.
Anyway I get in there they check my blood pressure which turns out to be normal, and then hook me up to a machine that dose my heart rate. it pinged up 155bmp.
The midwife couldn't believe and even said "that can't be right". So she checks it herself. It wasn't 155 but it was high. 110bmp. "right we'll check that again later" she says after checking.
I get hooked up to the CTG to make sure baby is ok and to check me for contractions.
I think I was on there almost an hour. I quite a few strong contractions. The midwife had to keep telling me to breath through them. Quite a few times she was saying theres one and looks painful.
I was contracting every 20 minutes and having BH's between them.
The doctor comes in and saying yes I am contracting every 20 minutes but still said they were Braxton hicks.
I was told baby was 2/5 engaged and when asked when my section was booked for gave me that look as if to say yea your not making it till then. Because of the pains and baby being that far engaged, they checked me over. My cervix is still long and closed. So doesn't look like baby will be arriving any time soon.
Yesterday I started feeling like I needed to pee more, At first I put it down to baby being engaged and pressing on my bladder, but then I noticed I was peeing a bit too much and that it started to hurt.
So I phoned out of hours doctor and went to see them. For all the appointments to be running over 2 hours late. The male receptionist to be lying to everyone, for me to get a doctor who was more interested in talking about kids then actually treating me. I went in thinking yea this is defiantly a UTI. The doctor said because there is no blood in my urine and I do not have a high temperature I don't have a UTI the pain and peeing loads is because I am washing too much.
I had such a bad night sleep that night. I was peeing every 5 minutes, and that's no word of a lie.
By lunch time today I had had enough I phoned out of hours doctor again and explained that I had phoned up yesterday and I wasn't happy with the information I was given yesterday. So this evening I went to see yet another doctor.
I get in there and the first thing that comes to mind was Joey from Friends kinda sounded like him as well.
Anyway me and hubby tell him was the doctor from yesterday told us, and he couldn't believe we were told that. He said you don't need a high temperature or blood in your urine to have a UTI. He said the dip sticks they use are not reliable enough to say whether someone has one or not.
He also said that going on my symptoms I do have a UTI.
I came out feeling so much better that I was actually listened to and that I was right in thinking I had one.
I guess it always pays to listen to your body. Don't let anyone fob you off, even a doctor. As my blog today proved doctors can be wrong. I'd hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't seen another doctor and I just left it. I'd had to think what would have happened to my unborn son.
